WHAT YOUR STUDENT WILL LEARN.

Each Simple Literacy lesson consists of 4 parts: Introduction, Guided Practice, Games, and Independent Practice.

Introduction of Focus Skill

This portion of the lesson is key to setting your student up for success. Students watch a ten-minute or less video taught by an Orton Gillingham Associate. In the video, the lesson's focus skill is clearly defined and explained. Setting the student up for success for the rest of the lesson.

Guided Practice

This portion of the lesson gives the student an opportunity to execute what they have been taught during the lesson. A literacy practice sheet is used to build their exposure to the focus skill and provide them with the necessary repetition to make the new learning become automatic.

Gamification

Once students have had a safe opportunity to practice the focus skill they are ready to have fun showing off their knowledge. Each lesson comes with a variety of games to keep the student excited and engaged. Games provide students with opportunities to read, spell, and build their vocabulary.

Independent Practice

Now that the student has had explicit teaching of the new skill and plenty of repetitions with the new skill they are ready to incorporate the new skill into a text. The decodable text piece of the lesson brings three key components of literacy together (decoding, fluency, and comprehension). Reinforcing the concept that literacy is multifaceted.
